So Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 caused quite a stir.
At first i thought the media were over-reacting, they were saying there’s a mission where you are encouraged to execute a hostage, and that this is not a reflection of real war.
But when i played the game myself I was surprised just how harsh it actually was. You’re undercover as a Russian terrorist in a group of four. That’s pretty much all you’re told. The level starts with you and the other Russian’s in an elevator, the leader instructs you to follow him. The doors open to a busy airport where the terrorists open fire on a crowd of the general public. The whole mission is to walk through the airport shooting everyone in sight.
So they released an update for the game that lets you decide if you want to opt out of the potentially offensive mission, also during the mission the pause screen gives you the ability to “skip this level” and no achievement points are lost if you do decide to skip it.
I was happy to play it, and whilst for a moment it was a bit of a surprise, it’s still nothing we haven’t seen before in Grand theft auto.
