With the Halo Multiplayer footage being leaked, and it’s Beta release due 8th May, lots of people have been talking about it.
One thing that keeps cropping up is people saying “Halo Reach is the last Halo game”, so thought i’d clear it up for you.
At the beginning a games development company called Bungie created the Halo game, orignially written to run on Mac OS. Microsoft saw this game in development and sorted a deal with Bungie in order to secure complete exclusivity for their first console, the original Xbox. The Xbox was released with Halo, which later became available on PC and Mac too.
Bungie went on to create Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST and later this year will release Halo Reach, which will still be exclusive to the Xbox.
What’s got people so wound up is that Lars Bakken, a Senior Designer at Bungie has said that they’ve been working on another game alongside Halo, which they’re still looking for a publisher for. Very little is known about this game, there’s no working title, and they won’t even say what kinda game it’ll be, or even if it’ll be an FPS (first person shooter) like the Halo games.
He also said that Reach will be the last Full Halo game Bungie make, but they’ll continue to release content on the Halo platform (that leaves us guessing) but I guess they mean things like Halo Waypoint, and possibly DLC (download content).
The great news is Halo is NOT dead after Reach, far from it in fact! Microsoft have started a completely new division called 343 Industries and hired a guy called Frank O’Connor who previously worked for Bungie, amongst others. 343 Industries will be the new company releasing Halo games in the future, this time owned by Microsoft. So I’d say we’ll definately see more Halo, and don’t worry that it’s a new name behind it, Microsoft have a hell of a lot invested in Halo, and are hiring some of the best guys to work on it!
