COD-MW2So Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 came out today!

We all knew this game was gona be a huge success, even before anyone had chance to play it. What we didn’t expect was the huge differences in price.

Gamers are always encouraged to support specialist video-game stores who are dedicated to providing the best service possible. Then came internet prices… online stores like Amazon and Play.com could offer the same products cheaper, so loyalties shifted, with gamers not wanting to waste their hard earned cash.

This release took us all by suprise with the Super-markets battling over who could provide the cheapest ‘release price’. Makro was the cheapest I could find at £20, with Sainsburys and Morrisons a close second at £26.00. This is a huge cut from Play.com’s £44.99, how gutted would you be if you’d pre-ordered with Play?

But the low prices won’t last… the super-markets want to be known as the best place to pick up the game on release day, with Sainsbury’s winning this one today. They’ll sell a limited amount of stock at the low ‘release price’ within a couple of hours. Then when they restock I expect they’ll retail the game at a normal price (around £40).

Some retailers where left in the dust today, with Game, Play and Tescos all charging around £45 whilst Sainsburys, Morrisons and Makro where all £26 or less. The best place now appears to be amazon.co.uk who have the game listed at £32.00 and still have stock – link to amazon uk store
